Fittleworth is a small village to the west of Pulborough on the river Rother which joins the river Arun just upstream of Puborough at the site of the old Hardham mill.

The village has two popular commons which are pockmarked by former mining of ironstone which is evident in the walls of many local cottages; the common at the east end of Sandy Lane is also managed as an arboretum with many rare trees.

The area is well worth wandering around as it little changed from how it was 100 years ago. The buildings in the village remind us of former ways of life with a water mill by the river, an adjacent former coaching inn plus the old blacksmith’s building in addition to the village church.

Fittleworth is 3 miles to the west of Pulborough.
