Boating on the river Arun, which is tidal, and free to use for four miles upstream and then downstream to the sea at Littlehampton.

Free public access is by the slipway at old Swan Bridge in Pulborough and elsewhere only by the landowners permission.

Upstream the river has all the charms and peace of the Wind in the Willows stories while downstream the tide is more evident and beyond Bury the speed of the river requires increasing fast water experience.
At Pulborough high tide is 4 hours after the exit to the sea at Littlehampton which is what is shown in the tide tables.

There are local businesses that provide canoes and paddle boards with instruction and safety equipment if you do not have the equipment or experience.

Fishing on the river Arun at Pulborough is excellent. The Arun is said to be the second fastest flowing river in England, but don’t let this put you off, as it also offers some of the best river fishing in Southern England, with this superb fishery offering catches of Roach, Dace, Chub, Mullet, Perch, Specimen Pike, Bream, double figure Barbel and large Carp.

The best fishing is managed by the local fishing club that rents lengths of bank locally for some of which day tickets are available from the Corn Stores Shop and Tea Room by the A29 bridge over the river. For access to other excellent club river and lake fishing in the area membership is required. Good fishing however can be found all along the river from other banks with the bank owners permission.
